Mayhem: One of the first black metal bands from Norway.
Immortal: also from Norway, black metal.
Dimmu Borgir: Norwegian black metal masters (one of my favorite bands).
Naglfar:from Sweden, black metal
Behemoth: From Poland ( old stuff is black metal, newer stuff more death metal like)
Vader: The legendary death metal kings from Poland (25 years of death metal and still going!)
Gorerotted: English grind core band formed into a new band called "the Rotted" with Gian Pyres ex-Cradle of Filth guitar player.
Nile: U.S. Technical death metal masters (awesome)
Malevolent Creation: U.S. Making death metal since 1987
Impaled: U.S. Great gore metal
This is just a few bands that I'm into, there are a lot more!

I just recently found out how cool Arcade Fire is. I saw a repeat of their performance on Austin City Limits the other day and popped on over to 4000 Holes to buy one of their CDs. Great, great stuff.
