Through the ethos (or is that through the ether?), I sense your unspoken question:

"What's the rumpus with that Dark Knight Rises Heroclix set?"

At least that's what I thought I heard. Anyhow, that's what I'll be talking about here, regardless.

The Dark Knight Rises isn't just another DC Heroclix set with a Batman theme. This set is specifically and exclusively based upon the three Christopher Nolan Batman movies, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and the upcoming Dark Knight Rises. Absolutely NONE of the figures in this set will be based on the comic book versions, but strictly on the movie versions of characters.

As with so many of the recent Heroclix releases, this one is being released in a variety of ways, even to a variety of different kinds of retailers. Let me shed some light on that for y'all.

Dark Knight Rises Micro-Set (Game Store)

- Micro-Sets, also known as gravity feeds, are sets of single-figure blind boosters.

- The Dark Knight Rises Micro-Set (Game Store version) consists of 29 figures. As I said before, ALL of these figures are characters represented in one of the 3 Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

- This set should be available at Merlyn's on Wednesday, June 13.

Dark Knight Rises Micro-Set (Mass Market)

- These are Micro-Sets that are NOT available to game stores like Merlyn's, but instead are exclusive to various retail stores.

- These micro-sets are available at Walgreens and Target, but be forewarned, clix aficionados have had these on their radar from the get-go and most of those retailers have already been hit and will be out of Heroclix product more often than not.

- The Target set includes 10 figures, the Dark Knight Rises figure numbers 201 - 210. These are reused sculpts from the main set that game stores can get, but with different dials.

- The Walgreens set also includes 10 figures, but not exactly the same 10 as Target. It includes 5 of the common figures from the game store set, with identical sculpts and dials (Shadow Assassin, GCPD Officer, Mercenary, Two-Face, and GCPD Riot Officer) as well as 5 of the 10 Target figures.

Dark Knight Rises Starter Set

- This starter set includes 6 predetermined figures (aka not random) which reuse sculpts from the main set, but with dials different from the main set and also different from the mass-market figures.

- Starters are available at game stores, like MERLYN'S, for example.

- This is the 1st starter to include the brand-new 2012 Heroclix rulebook, which includes updated wordings, rules, and new mechanics like Tiny, Split, and Merge.

The Dark Knight Rises Mini-Game



- Presumably this is like the Avengers Movie Mini-Game that is still currently available at Merlyn's. This small boxed set is intended for playing a game right out of the box and includes 4 figures, Batman, Catwoman, the Joker, and Bane.

- Like the Micro-Set and the Starter set, this will be available at Merlyn's on Wednesday, June 13.
