I've never liked Thor.

Growing up, I was a total DC fan, especially Superman. I collected all the titles,
Man Of Steel, Superman, Adventures, Action and the occasional Specials.
I grew up with the Christopher Reeves movies so naturally, I wanted to see more
of the Big Blue Boy Scout.
Now, I'd always been interested in Batman because, yes, I'm old enough
to have seen the Adam West Batman on a black and white TV.
Yet, after that, a little movie simply titled BATMAN with a comedian as the dark knight was released.
Well, needless to say, that also drew me into the darker world of Batman. Just about the right time
where I got to phone in on whether they should kill his teenage sidekick.
It was a great time to be alive.

As time went on, I started to read other books such as JLA and my still all time favorite,
Justice League International. Now granted, all that was before the big New 52, which some
of you know, I'm not a huge fan of.

Then Marvel came out with a movie called IRON MAN.

I wasn't really hip on the sneak footage I saw at San Diego Comic Con.
I didn't know much about Iron Man, but the footage they showed was his early
suit that he built in the cave.
Needless to say, visions of Shaq's STEEL came flooding into my mind.
What a joke this movie would be, but I got a free T-shirt and decided to go.

I was blown away.

Tony Stark was awesome! This guy had everything. Money, fame, a super cool suit.
I'd never even been a Robert Downey Jr. fan. My last recollection of him was the D-bag in Weird Science.
I wanted to know more about the guy who ADMITTED he was a superhero! I mean, who does that?
Luckily, one of the best writers out there, Matt Fraction, was writing it.
I bought back issues and whatever else I could. My eyes had been opened.

Now, looking back, I realize my view of marvel was tainted. I grew up in the 70's and even
though DC had it's weird issues, it seemed Marvel was always WAY out there and groovy.
Too groovy for my tastes. Luke Cage and his huge afro, Dr. Strange. I mean, the guy was called STRANGE.
Then there was Thor. Who flies around with a helmet? And what was with the lettering?
Did I need a decoder ring to even read it?
Forget it. Back then it was simple fun. Superman gets bad guys.

I was very excited to find out they were making an Iron Man 2 at this point.
I was enjoying the movies and I was enjoying the comic.
Then, at the end of Iron Man 2, Agent Coulson finds something in the desert.
A hammer.

After seeing the trailer for Thor, my thoughts re-visited a little movie called He-Man made
back in the 80's with before-famous, Courtney Cox.

Again, I was proven wrong.
While I won't say I'm attracted to Chris Hemsworth, I won't-won't say it either.
I'll admit, I'm in the minority of the people who truly enjoyed Thor. Yes, it felt like a set-up
movie for the Avengers, but it was still fun. It was a simple look at Marvel's God from Asgard.

And again, I wanted to learn more.

Thor was fun. He was a dude I could hang with. Fight and drink!
ANOTHER!!
Hanging around a bar telling stories of mighty battles. Who wouldn't want to do that?

Luckily, again, with he release of Thor 2, Thor - God of Thunder is being printed and it's
just a crap load of fun. From God killers to bar fights. If you've ever role played D&D,
this is the guy you wanted your warrior to be.

So when it comes down to it, yes, I've sought out comics because of movies.
Have there been let downs?
Yes.
Going from Dark Knight Rises to reading the new 52 Batman makes me want to cry and Bendis on
Avengers was not a good choice, but yes, I've also had a lot of fun seeking out these books.

So I ask you.

Have you ever read a comic BECAUSE of a movie?

Weirdly enough, after watching "Dylan Dog" I wanted to read the comic. I knew that it was based off a famous Italian series, but I had never gotten around to reading them prior. However, after watching "Dylan Dog," which was the perfect amount of cheesy for me, I had to seek out the graphic novels for comparison.

That is really the only time (or at least the only one coming to memory), that I can honestly remember watching a film and then seeking out the comics to read.
